When a desktop computer lacks built-in Wi-Fi capability or the integrated wireless adapter does not provide a suitable connection, the TP-Link Archer T3U Plus offers a convenient solution through its USB 3.0 interface and external high-gain antenna. The adapter operates on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, providing maximum theoretical wireless speeds of up to 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz.
The 2.4 GHz band is suitable for everyday internet activities such as browsing and email, while the 5 GHz band enables higher-speed connectivity when used with a compatible dual-band router. The adjustable external omnidirectional antenna incorporates two high-gain antennas and can be positioned to optimize signal reception according to the location of the computer and wireless router.
The USB 3.0 interface provides adequate throughput for high-speed wireless networking. MU-MIMO technology can improve network efficiency by supporting simultaneous two-stream data transmission, although a compatible MU-MIMO router is required to benefit from this feature.
The listed wireless speeds are theoretical maximums. Actual throughput, signal range, and performance may vary depending on the router, network load, physical obstacles, and environmental conditions.
The Archer T3U Plus is a practical solution for users who want to add dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity to a desktop computer or prefer an external adjustable antenna over their current wireless setup.
Ideal For
- Desktop computers without a built-in Wi-Fi adapter.
- Users seeking an alternative to an existing wireless networking solution.
- Home or office networks using a dual-band router that supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies.
- Users who want the flexibility to adjust antenna orientation for optimal signal reception.
Important Information
- MU-MIMO: Simultaneous two-stream data transmission requires a compatible MU-MIMO router.
- Theoretical Speeds: Up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz are theoretical maximum speeds and do not represent guaranteed real-world transfer rates.
- 5 GHz Band Usage: Requires a dual-band router that supports 5 GHz operation.
- macOS Compatibility: Verify driver availability and compatibility with your specific macOS version before installation.
